so i'm pretty on top of my bank account. i keep track of it online every day. i
know that the available balance includes transactions that are pending, so you
don't think you have more money than you do.
well, apparenly my
online thing through chase was fucked up over the weekend, because it was
telling me i had more money than i did. and there were some gas station
transactions that didn't show up at all. my transactions at the gas station are
usually pretty small (i.e. around 10 bucks, sometimes less), so i didn't even
think there was anything wrong.
monday night @
midnight (technically tuesday morning), my direct deposit goes through. i check
my balance and i've got 311 bucks. this is a little short for me, even
considering that i went home early on friday, since i worked 34.5 hours, and was
paid 12 dollars per hour. this means that over 100 bucks in taxes was taken out.
but whatever. i let it go.
i do notice,
however, that there are several small charges in parentheses. apparently, i went
into overdraft, BUT my check was deposited BEFORE my account reflected any
transactions that put me into overdraft. in fact, those smaller transactions
were all from CVS and the gas station, for cigarettes and gas. they total 35.81,
altogether. but no overdraft fees were taken out, which made sense to me since i
was paid at midnight, tuesday morning, before my account showed me that anything
went over.
flash to today, i
check my account, and i have 160 bucks. they took out 150 in "insufficient
funds" fees. it's ridiculous, and it's completely unacceptable. this, coupled
with their recent behavior regarding my checks, is insane. i called customer
service, chewed this poor guy out and demanded a proper explanation, and what it
basically came down to was a "technicality". that even though my transactions
didn't POST to my account (therefore not reflected in my "available balance")
until after i was paid, they were made before i was paid, which makes me
overdrawn. clever fucking bank jerks.
so i told the guy
that i'm sick of them raping my wallet, especially since i'm considered lower
middle class and the economy is fucked, and it affects the middle class the most
right now. then i told him to kiss my ass and that i'm taking all of my money
out and going to a bank that can actually tell me WHY my checks are on hold, and
won't charge me 30 bucks PER overdraft transaction. oh, and some place that will
offer me a savings account the day i sign up, not 6 months later when i complain
about overdraft fees. since chase told me when i first signed with them that i
couldn't have a savings account yet because i had no credit, which makes
absolutely no sense, whatsoever.
god i'm pissed. 8:30
AM and i already need a fucking drink. fuck this week.
